My very good friend passed through Winnnipeg twice. He went on an adventure. Toronto to Tofino and back is what we refered to it as. Living in a Grand Caravan, on his own, doing four hours a day of hi-end legal work from where ever he could find a cell signal. He just "moseying around".

On the way out we talked about many things we shared in our lives. On his way back we discussed all of the important things he had discovered.

I started writing Taking a Long Way Home after his first visit but did not complete the bed tracks until he had passed through Winnipeg mid-November.

I had planned for him to play a clarinet solo.

He received a terminal medical diagnosis the first week of December, just days after returning to Toronto, and passed in July. I played fife as the solo, in his memory. It was an inside joke.
